CAMPAIGN FOR REDUNDANCY RIGHTS IN SODEXO

SODEXO AGREES TO RE-OPEN TALKS ON VOLUNTARY REDUNDANCY

As a result of talks which took place between the probation unions and Sodexo today, with the assistance of the National Negotiating Council (NNC) Joint Secretaries, we are pleased to announce that Sodexo has agreed to re-open talks with the unions next week over its previously announced voluntary redundancy offer.

You will remember that the unions had previously asked Sodexo to increase its offer, which falls far short of the NNC Enhanced Voluntary Redundancy (EVR) scheme, but the company refused. As a result, we consulted you on the Sodexo offer, and 98% of Napo and UNISON members voted to reject it and take industrial action to seek to improve it. Sodexo is aware of this.

As responsible trade unions, we have halted any preparations for industrial action pending the talks resuming with Sodexo. We asked Sodexo to halt their redundancy timetable while the talks take place, but the company has not agreed to this at this point in time. We will continue to argue for this, because it makes sense to pause at this stage, particularly if the Sodexo voluntary redundancy offer changes.

In the meantime, members are advised not to enter into any agreements or undertakings with their CRC, or Sodexo, in relation to the company’s voluntary redundancy offer, pending further detailed advice which will be sent out next week following the meetings with the company.

  1. I wonder why they've done that? It can only be after pressure from NOMS as this disingenuous nonsense is hardly going to have them quaking in their boots. 98% of members certainly didn't vote to strike. It was 98% of those who voted. Also, it's not voluntary redundancy it's voluntary severance as many able minded posters on here have often pointed out. Lets hope this is something for our shafted sodexo ruled colleagues but don't hold your breath.

  2. The blogger yesterday was right. Ian is making mega moves and shaking sodexo to its core. Ranjit is also all over this as well. Things are looking good? They want answers and are taking it to the Sodexo Chiefs. #feeling optimistic

Read the third paragraph until you actually understand the ploy of Sodexo. It is to watch the chest beating not on my watch Lawro claim to be responsible silly ! What he needs to do is continue the action until they agree ( Not just talks ) but a proper moratorium on the continued terminations agenda. More weak and a superfast climb down . It illustrates so clearly their weakened hand. Poor Ranjit no doubt Batmans sidekick as Robins .

    4. And comedy diffuses tension hahahahahahh Thanks that's is a brilliant gag. Napo are dictating the terms ! Oh well nothing to worry about then sacking off VR Off Severance off its all off sodexo are going to do all what Lawro says and so why have they not paused the timetable is that because Ranjit and Ian are letting them

    5. NAiPO dictating the terms, now that is entertaining, or delusional - whichever the case, you would have to be intoxicated if you believe the G.S has credibility with the privateers. They dictate the status quo and hire and fire staff as they wish. Seriously, what is Ian Lawrence going to do. What's the best prediction for future outcomes ... Yes, past success and there ain't been much of that for Mr 'not on my watch' Lawrence.

  3. Why is Napo still referring to Sodexo's voluntary severance offer as a redundancy offer?

  4. Calm down people. No rabbits have been pulled from any hats yet. I note that whilst sodexo are being forced (and it won't be by NAPO and UNISON) Back to the table they haven't stalled the severance scheme as it currently stands. There will be plenty non union and union members alike who will take it too. The inaccurate and crowing nonsense above is unlikely to do what really needs to happen ie stop the cuts altogether. It has the hallmark of the self assured bully and rabbit who, in my experience, is a lovely man but probably not the sharpest knife in the box.

  5. In a Sodexo run crc far far away, the deadline for the expression of interest for severance has passed. Imagine an administrator who lives over an hour away from the hub. Imagine you're a PO who has been told you are one of the at risk groups who will have to compete for their job. No timeline has been set, yet commitments of various financial kinds endure. Application for severance submitted, then the NAPO fairy advises members not to engage! Sodexo dragon NOW happy to welcome talks on a process that has already been initiated. However not interested in suspending the very process that is in question! How oh how does the tale end???

Same old pattern ... Napo throws and bone and everyone starts getting exited ... then nothing changes.

I'm pretty sure Sodexo has its full set of severance applications already. It has not halted its redundancy programme. It has nothing to lose by re-entering talks with Napo.

Napo, however, has halted its "preparations for industrial action".

And all this talk of Sodexo, but I hear that MtcNovo is currently splitting staff into 'cohorts', creating an admin 'hub' out of London, and has put admin on informal notice that the majority will not have jobs.

  8. Does anyone know if jobs available in NPS if any negotiation on being able to keep T&Cs like NPS can if they move to a CRC? I know it stopped in June but heard unions were tryingto renegotiate?

    ReplyDelete
  9. St present terms and conditions are not being maintained for those who transfer from CRC to NPS. It is the NPS discretion if they do and that is unlikely especially in light of the fact that the Conservative spending review will be concluded in November 2015. MOJ is certainly going to take a hit!

  10. the pay gap between stacking shelves and managing 70 offenders with all that entails is narrowing - soon i'll be jumping shitp - sod the drop in pay I need peace of mind. CRC PSO.

  11. As we in CRC are going through the process at the moment alot of our NPS colleagues are saying there time is coming. They also have indicated that the MOJ will be looking at these new models and IF they work ie. central hubs etc then they might reshape NPS to the same. I am of the option that probation is going to be in turmoil for some time to come, so it is a waiting game. The only difference with NPS will be that their exit strategy will be on better terms.

    ReplyDelete
  12. No, NPS is in turmoil there is real panic about the operating model remember all high risk ( except FNOs where we fill a sort of "what else can we do with them" role and then panic if FNOs are not deported because we no longer have any agency connections or staff to deal with them). People refer to the spending review but already each NPS area has been told to make savings of £millions, there are stealth plans afoot believe me
The NPS is a mess and fast unravelling. It is a waiting game until compulsory redundancies can be made.

  13. I maybe just dont understand but I work for a Sodexo CRC and as far as I know there have been no Voluntary Redundancy offers. There are some offers in relation to Severance. What offers are IL and RS referring to? This latest communication is meaningless to me for it advises people «not to enter into agreements» re redundancy. THERE HAVENT BEEN ANY.

    1. I think its clumsiness or careless use of language - or maybe it really is sheer stupidity. There is no voluntary redundancy on offer by Sodexo. Its voluntary severance (discussed widely on this blog) or compulsory redundancy, or as Sodexo seem to state: "my way or the highway".

For fear of being boring - Severance means they can replace posts with lower paid staff, and if enough put their hands up they do not need to go down the redundancy route. And its JOBS that are made redundant, not people. They don't want to tie their hands when, after everyone's voluntarily walked away with 50% of the NNC agreed EVR, they can fill those posts at 50% of the previous salary. Save, Save Save - Win, Win, Win. Were you a PSO on £27k a year? Were you due £30k EVR? Well, Sodexo would prefer to offer you £13k severance & re-employ someone to do your job for £17k a year.

      Delete
    2. You have it in a nutshell! This will happen in all CRCs throughout the Country it's just a matter of time. Discussions have been under way with the PI re. fingerprint machines. They will replace some bodies with machines for 'low risk' offenders and employ PSOs or whatever they call them on lower wages.

  14. People losing their jobs through redundancy, severance or managed out IS SERIOUS. For NAPO NOT TO GET THEIR linguistics correct is unacceptable and tells me that they have taken their eye off the ball or THEY DONT CARE OR UNDERSTAND. From Shoots from the Hip

    1. I agree: Napo should not be calling it VR when Sodexo is doing VS. At best this language is deferential and at worst it's condoning Sodexo's trickery and bad faith.

Napo's stance is illogical and resonates with weakness. Sodexo is in breach of the framework agreement, it has sidestepped collective bargaining mechanisms and consulted directly with individuals. The unions hold a consultative ballot and this as well as other influences, apparently brings Sodexo back to the negotiating table. Despite being a 'member-led' union the turnout information is patronisingly withheld. You therefore have to assume it was a derisory turnout.

Nevertheless, as a 'responsible trade union' Napo ceases industrial action preparations, but no similar goodwill from Sodexo – they will not return to the status quo ante, they will press on with individual consultations. I suggest that a responsible trade union does not give something for nothing, there should always be a quid pro quo. But this missive from Napo has 'loser' written all over it. Sodezo are going through motions, They are aware that in the event of any future legal challenges, they can point to their reasonableness in attending meetings. And perhaps a meeting was always on the cards under the management of change protocol which Nasty Nick recently told us he had triggered by writing to the Joint Secretaries with regard to compulsory redundancies.

  15. Why oh why is NAPO being so "reasonable" in the face of aggressive high stake tactics? This MATTERS it is not only the jobs of our colleagues in these areas, it is the future for us all.

    1. Playing at the highest level requires precision, the smallest fractions mean winning or losing: F1 - tenths or hundedths of seconds; test match cricket - 3 or 4 mph variation in bowling speed. Language is equally important, as are legally defined terms. Napo SHOULD be blasted for getting their terminology wrong, especially where jobs, careers, EVR + t&c's are at risk. Its careless, amateurish errors of this sort that predators like Sodexo feed on.

      Delete
    2. In the Note, Napo refers to Sodexo's VR offer. That's the error. There has been no VR offer from Sodexo.

  24. NO 01:30. All people expect is that if NAPO are going to issue statements they get it right. If they cannot do this what right do they have to proffer advice? Sodexo published a severance offer. Some people chose to apply for it.Some people have been offered severance subject to contract. NAPO continuing to refer to redundancy agreements is an irrevelance and, as 01:55 says so aptly, Amateurish.
